Ayres’ Prizes Await - Competitors Preparations for L. 8. Ayres’ T5th' anniversary art competition and ex~ hibition continned today with more! than 700 Hoosier paintings and, prints being classified. Midnight last Saturday wit the. deadline for entries in the competition, which will be judged Nov. 6, 7 and 8 by Edward Hopper, Truro, Mass.; Sidney Laufman, Woodstock, N. Y., and Hobart Nichols, Washington, D, C, With top prizes of $1000, $750 and $500, the competition offers an additional seven prizes of $250 each and 10 of $100 each for paintings or prints on Indiana subjects by Indiana residents, Puble exhibition of the 700 entries will start Nov, 19 in Ayres’ galleries, to continue to Dec. 3,
Holmes To Open Travelog Series
Burton Holmes, veteran traveler and lecturer, will open his annual Indianapolis travelog- series at the Murat Theater next Tuesday night. Subject of Mr. Holmes’ opening lecture, illustrated with motion pictures in color, will be “Rio de Janeiro,” with additional films on the| Iguassa cataracts in the Brazilian tropics il On succeeding Tuesday nights, Mr. Holmes will present another! lecture on Brazil, Nov, 11; “The Mississippl River,” Nov, 18; “The Pacific Northwest,” Nov, 25, rig “Southern California and Holly- | wood,” Dec. 2. Seats are on sale at the Gladys Alwes Music Shop.
