Promises Restoration Of Home Government

Times State Service ° VALPARAISO, Ind, Sept. 24.— A promise to “finish the job of} restoring the government to the! people,” if t people elect a Re-| publican president was given by Representative Charles A. Halleck! here last night. The house majority leader pre-| dicted a “sweeping G. O. P. vidé-| tory in 1948” in his first Indiana address since congress adjournéd. He told his Hoosier audience that the 80th congress fulfilled its came paign pledges, “save where our legislation was clubbed down by shocking abuse of the Presidential

veto.” |

“By opposing any substantial reductien in government expenditures and by vetoing tax relief bills, President Truman presumes to lay down the principle that the White House and not congress shall control the nation's purse,” he declared. “Production and more production is the key to the problem of rising prices,” he said, “and we are determined to remove all impediments to increased production.”
