'Not Mine,’ Johony Mercer

Second Side of New Hit Disc Is Another

Revival, ‘Happy In Love,’ With Swing Sirs

By DONNA MIKELS Another oldie snatched from Tin Pan Alleys graveyard and given a little musical revivification is one of the best bets in the current crop of record releases, : It's “Not Mine,” and the jevival is by Eddy Howard and his orchestra, “Not Mine” was a Johnny Mercer tune, introduced, as I remember, in a “B” picture by a vocalist in name only. It didn’ t have a chance then but possibly Mr. Howard's treatment — of it as a medium slow ballad may ‘Mercury push it up into the popular brackets, | The second side is another revival, “Happy In Love,” by Howard and the Swing Sirs Other new releases include:

Mercury releases a flock of tunes by Eddy ‘'Cleanhead” Vinson in line with his local appearance. Mr, Cleanhead has a limited but ardent bunch of fans who'll probably go

Capitol for: “Lazy Gal” and “Bonus Pay,” The Dinning B8isters, who'll be “Kidney Stew Blues” and “Old

singing for Hooslers at the opening

of the Indiana State Fair, have a new treatment of the standard favorite “I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now.” The second side features the

Loves,” “Cleanhead Blues,” “Somebody's Got to Go,” “Cherry Red Blues,” “Too Many Women Blues,” and “Just a Dream,” “It's a Groovy

June Christy makes her bow as a solo star on “If I Should Lose You,” a tune of about 19356 vintage and a novelty take-off on a children's ditty “Skip Rope.” Andy Russell fans will like his arrangements of “All My Love,” and “On the Old Spanish Trail.” An-| other double header from a popular male crooner is “Turntable Song,”

Jo Stafford is at her best, which is pretty darn good on “Love and the Weather,” It's a new Irving Berlin tune and what better recommendation could a record fan ask? The second side, Jo singing *“Feudin’ and Fightin,” is not so good. Maybe I'm prejudiced but none of the arrangements of “Feudin’” that I've heard have come close to the original verson by Park Avenue Hillbilly Dorothy Shay. And here's one for the fans who go for big names crowded together. Banded together under the name of “The Hollywood Hucksters" are

such musical luminaries as Benny| Gordon MacRae, baritone vocalist Goodman, Red Norvo .on vibes,

Benny Carter at alto, Trumpeter who's “skyrocketed 10 popularly
