By LOUISE FLETCHER Times Woman's Editor NEW YORK, July 17.-~To one person at least, the pafided hipline is something that should have arrived several years ago— about the time she got her first (and last) ice skates. Aside from its insulation’ value, though, the upholstered hipbone is an interesting fashion phenomenon. Who would have thought . it could happen in a streamlined age? . It has. It was shown yesterday by still another of the designers whose shingles hang on fashion street (Seventh Avenue to the map makers). “The stuffing” is discreet—but it's there. Hansen Bang inserts light hip padding under the skirts (plain or pleated) of some ‘black crepe afternoon dresses and some cocktail suits. Herbert Sondheim frequently achieves the curved hip line with drapery or convex petal peplums. Jo Copeland, Pattullo modes designer, arrives at the contoured. hip by a different route. A tunic pitches a curve over the hipline, or pockets get plastered smack over the hips.
Double Collars Shown
By Several Designers Second only to hip hooray in yesterday's style shows was the “more collar” trend. It- started off with the double collar—an ermine. one over one of wool— in a brown woolen dress-and-Jacket afternoon costume by Capri. . Mr. Bang followed up with double collars and revess and shawl “collars. And Mr. Sondheim topped

ful these days, but all of the foods which the United States Agriculture department says will be plentiful ‘during the next’ month are good foods. Besides being plentiful — and therefore usually on the “best buy” section of your shopping list, these foods are so varied that they include most of the nutritional elements your family needs for wellbalanced summer diets. +» Included in the plentiful list for August are peaches, canfaloupes, fresh oranges and lemons, canned citrus juices and grapefruit segments, canned tomato juice, canned peas (especially the lower grades), diced and cut canned beets and carrots, peanuf butter, cottage cheese, and SAgerjrent.
THIS WEEK finds fruit and some vegetable supplies in the middle of a transition period. Asparagus and strawberries are tapering off, while later fruit varieties such as peaches and apples are just coming onto the markets in volume. However, watermelons are just at the brink of the seasonal supply peak. Volume is heavy, quality is good, and prices are far below early season high ‘levels.

it off with ‘a shoulder-wide, diaphragm-deep collar on a beige and brown’ suit. Hoth Mr. Bang and Mr. Sondheim devote careful attention to shoulder lines. Both use padding. And both attain a gently rounded effect which avoids any suggestion of droopiness. In the Bang design seaming down the sleeves adds the ynbroken curved line. Satins ahd ‘brocades are featured in his aftternoon and evening costumes.

Copeland Gives Choice Of Various Silhouettes
Kass evening gowns alternating between the romantic and the sophisticated, include one with a hoydenish touch. A ballet length black taffeta and lace, it is circumspect! enough—until the hem flips up. Into view then come black lace pantalets with a ruffle hiked up by a bouquet of pink roses. Silhouette variety is a talking point in Jo Copeland's designs,
+ Some of her skirts have interest
focused at the front—as in a pleated panel for a cutaway coat dress, .or a handkerchief drape. Others stress back interest with
bustle bows, pleated ruffles or back-dipping hems. Pattullo skirt lengths vary
with the costume type. Daytime dresses are longer than those of past seasons. Full skirts drop below the calf. Evening dresses hover near the ankle except when they are for the most formal occasions. Then they get down to the floor,
Freezing Fruit Is Not Hard, Says Expert
Fruits and berries with that just-! picked flavor are a boon to winter] diets. It is now possible to preserve these seasonal foods with modern freezing devices and Dr. D. K.
"| Tressler of the A. E. Staley Manu-
facturing Co., Decatur, Ill, has developed detailed instructions for
{freezing fruits and berries. :
Whole berries are frozen usually
‘with sirup. The fruits should be
washed in ice water, stemmed and over-and-under-ripe berries discarded. After they are drained they should be packed in containers in which the fruit is to be frozen, filling to three-fourths inch from the tops.
Be Sure Containers Will Not Leak ,
Glass jars or enamel-lined tid cans may be used. Liquid-tight frozen food cartons also are desirable. If the bag-in-folding-box type of carton is used be sure that the bags are really liquid tight and
jean be heat-sealed.
Add about one-half cup of cold heavy sirup. In order to obtain the maximum protection from the sirup, place a piece of crumpled waxed or other waterproof paper or moistureproof cellophane on top of the fruit just before clos ing the container. When the lid is put iff place this will force the fruit down under the sirup and keep it there during freezing and :thawing. Then freeze promptly and quickly.
Stubble Yields To Lotion
for improved cosmetics comes a depllatory to simplify leg-grooniing. This’ hair-remover is a creamy, odorless lotion formulated to make

All that's needed for the clean-up is one application of fluffy lotion. When removed with a cloth or cotton and plenty of lukewarm water, hair is also removed. The entire job takes 15 minutes or
