Hoosier Soprano Scores at |. U.

Times Stale Kervice BLOOMINGTON, Ind, July 17.-— A good voice with excellent training. That was the analysis today of the concert presented before an] Indiana university summer school] convocation by Miss Mary. Johns-

Miss Johnston sang to one of the largest audiences ‘which has attended a summer convocation. The audience applauded the Hoosier soprano’s program of songs in German, Italian, French and English.

Her voice Is clear and of a solid quality. She showed excellent discipine and fine technical ability, in addition to her natural -talent. Her attack was sure, her enunciation precise and her tone rich. Her breath control was excellent.

If her pitch was occasionally uncertain, there was no question of the excellence of her over-all musicianship. She was perhaps a trifle more effective in songs than in religious music, but she showed a real skill in the operatic arias she essayed.

HOLLYWOOD, July 17 (U.
