The draw was set up in such & way that all three could be in the semi-finals’ at the end of today’s morning and afternoon rounds, However, all three faced rough roads into tomorrow's. 36-hole semifinal matches. The 36-hole finale is Saturday. Young Hare, who looks like a Junior matinee idol, ran into another of the tourney’s “upsetters,” Frank Gaible of Richmond, in his first match today. development was the consistent shooting of David. The two-time state champ was just two-over-par for the 66 holes he needed to play to win medalist honors and his first two matches. He defeated R. E. Blake, Anderson, 5 and 3, and J. Clark Esple, Indianapolis, 5 and 4, in his opening matches. David canned a 40foot putt and followed it with two straight birdies to blast Esple's hopes. ‘ Wampler and Chapman had considerable trouble in winning their second-round matches. Chapman needed three extra holes to beat Pritz Cox of Terre Haute, the runner-up in 1934 and three-under-par first nine in his morning match, needed 42 strokes on the same holes against John Pope of Hammond. % Pope couldn't do any better going out. They y settled down on the back nine, fired par golf and Wampler finally won on the 17th hole by canning a 10-foot putt for a birdie,

Even more encouraging to the blokes in the red blazers was Big Jim Hearn giving them a tremendous pitching lift with a threehitter and little Murry Dickson returning to wizardry with a fourhitter, ® & » . THE St. Louis Nationals’ assign? ment is made considerably more difficult this trip, however, by the fact that they have five clubs to beat instead of one, and even the other pair, the Phillies and Pirates, are thorcughly capable of rising up and stirring up trouble.
