Husband Died The road to happiness was shut off a year ago to Mrs, Barnes. Her husband died of pneumonia. He didn't have much to leave for his | 22-year-old wife and the children. Mrs, Barnes took the family sav{ings and moved into a small trailer home in the 2600 block 8. Searched 2 Days Mrs. Barnes asked a woman to take care of her children for several days while she went to Indianapolis to find work, She had been gone for two fruitless days when the woman called the sheriff's office and charged that Mrs. Barnes had deserted her children, Learning of what the woman had done, Mrs. Barnes gave up her search for a job and rushed home so that she would not lose the youngsters. Turned Into Street In May the land on which the trailer was located was sold and the Barnes family was turned into the street, That same evening Mrs. Barnes suffered an attack of appendicitis and was taken to Long hospital fur an emergency operation. After scouring the city in a twomonths’ search for a low-rent house all the members of the committee— Mrs. Lee Burkett, chairman: Mrs. Rose Casto, Mrs. Carl D. Elliott, Mrs. Howard Chambers and Mrs. Ernest Hahn—were discouraged. Finally they heard of a veteran who had bought a new house and was willing to sell his property at 2853 8. Rybolt ave. at a reasonable price. They bought the house. Mr. ahd Mrs. Burkett worked every night for a month renovating it. Newspaper and radio appeals brought furniture, food ahd clothing, Gala House Warming Yesterday the tiny home was ready for occupancy. The committeg staged a gala housewarming. |

crossed the threshold of their new home for the first time.
The committee will file a final report the last of this week and work on a new project will be started. The Barnes are settled peacefully and have a year’s lease and a great faith in mankind. As for Harold, he is still at the home for crippled children. But" members of the Shrine are investigating to see if he can be

him to a hospital in the East for treatment.
