The Offenhauser midget pilots
» Still were ‘miles apart today—about as far as the fast Offys usually are from the rest of the racing fleld, barrgd from the Capitol association, formed a virtual picket line at the Indianapolis Midget: Speedway
The Offenhauser drivers,
on W. 16th st: last night when th the Consolidated association banner. Bob Breading of Indianapolis and Tom Cherry of Muncie, acting as spokesmen for the group, said they were prevented from running. But Randall Mitchell, track president, said they could have run if they had posted the Consolidated’s sioo forfeit bond and entry fee and provided that the cars were not owned by any speedway operator. Consolidated regulations, while permitting open competition, bars cars which are property of track operators. This has been a point of contention among the drivers in the current midget mixup. There were some rumbles of dissatisfaction in the stands which Mitchell termed the “work of disgruntled drivers.” The Offenhauser drivers said that if they had posted the Consolidated fee they would have forfeited it the next time they ran outside of the organization.
