“pretty pags that the Indisapolis
Midget Speedway on the west side has decided to go it alone. Randall Mitchell, president, announced that the track will withdraw from the United Speedways organization and General Manager Paul A Walk said that the corporation has signed a new contract ‘with the Con-
colidated Midget Racing association. It all stems from the fact that the Offenhauser is a mighty fancy piece of racing’machinery. The Offys have been “cleaning up” at the Indiana tracks, and the owners of the less powerful cars have complained bitterly. Since they are in the majority, they've succeeded in having the Offenhausers barred from the Capitol racing group (to which the Indianapolis Midget Speedway originally belonged). Capitol Drivers Stay Away The west. side track announced open competition last week, so the Capitol boys stayed away in large numbers. Hence the switch to Consolidated, whose rules permit racing of Offenhausers as long as drivers are in good standing with the organization, Meanwhile, across town at the In-
at Kitley, it was announced that— for tonight at least—the Offys will be barred and that the card will feature a “galaxy of V-8's.” This in spite of the fact that Earl Sexson, one of the track owners, has :a couple of Offenhausers in his own racing stable. Unguarded Mike This - operator-ownership is another sore point with some of the drivers. They claim that the track operators are not only taking their
the purse when their own Offys win.

~ Levine-Fox 'Go’ On WISH Tonight
It will be a smashing Fight hand hitter against a powerful left hooker when Billy Fox of Philadelphia o s Artie Levine (above), Brook: yn, in a ten-round light-heavywei match at Madison Square a in New York tonight. Fox, after a string of 48 kayo wins, ran into his first reverse six weeks a when he found Gus Lesnevich, champ, too seasoned. Since then, however, he has added two more knockouts to his list. This is Levine's first start in the 175-1b. division. Artie is a sharp clouter and is capable of putting over a crusher that has many a foe to the canvas. The Brooklynite will be outweighed by a few pounds but boxing men figure he’ll make up for that with superior boxing skill. midweek at Muncie. An attendant left the public address system unguarded for a few minutes and the drivers of the ‘barred Offenhausers proceeded to go on the air with the announcement that
they had been prevented from racing because of .their type of cars. Displeased, the drivers of V-8's and slower cars refused to run the rest of the program and the track management had to pass out rain checks for a future event. Walk announced that the west side track will start construction immediately of an additional 10,000 seats at the east and west ends of the oval.
He said that b Hall, secretary of the Consolidated group, had assured him that the organization has a membership of 80 cars and “more than enough to assure us a full field.” The. new. schedule calls for open competition at each event with time trials necessary for cars to enter the program of seven events which includes two 25-lap features. The first program under the new set up will be run next Tuesday night. Walk said that the Midget Speedway ultimately plans to stage two race cards each week, possibly adding Sunday nights.

12 Kokomo Boys In Golf Final
PFT. WAYNE, Ind, June 27 (U. P.).~The battle for the 23d annual Indiana junior golf championship became an all-Kokomo affajr today as Wally Martin and Don Farrington teed off in a 36-hole final match. »
Experts conceded Martin a slight edge over his rival, mainly due to his consistent tournament record. But the 17-year-old Farrington, in ousting Kokomo's city champ, Bob Holt Jr., in'a semi-final match yesterday, proved that he was still very much in the r Farrington was only one over par in his cantest with Holt which went only 16 holes. He was only one over par for the stretch and played superb golf during the first nine when he built’ up ‘a three-hole lead he never relinquished.
