The dry element of Irvington's
citizenry is on the warpath again, renewing its century-old fight to. prevent the sale of liquor in “the | community. For the third time in a year the
same Irvington dry committee appared before the Marion county liquor board yesterday to protest | renewal of a liquor sales license. - | This time the protest was against | a license for Haag's drug store at 5648 E. Washington st. The committee, as before, cited the fact that the original land deeds for the town of Irvington before it became part of Indianapolis contained covenants against the sale of" alcholic beverages except for medicinal and industrial purposes. Attorney Presents Case The remonstrance was presented | by Lou A. Roberts, attorney and a! leader of the group. Robert S. Smith, president of the liquor board, said the board had no authority under the state law to! deny a liquor license in Irvington. |

“The only remedy the protesting {committee has is by injunctive ac-' tion in the civil courts,” Mr. Smith said.
Mr. Roberts said he would carry the protest to the state alcholic
; | beverage commission for another | hearing, | The state commission upheld the |
local liquor board in previous Irv-| ington liquor license renewals.
