ment went to one ‘of them who is 41 and has a son in the freshman, class. He was Harold Freeman of R.R. 8. Martinsville, who has been the oldest of the *G. 1. Bill of Rights” students in the high school here. Some of his classmates called him “Pop” or “Grandpa,” but others called him “Junior.” His youthful spirit was shown by the fact that he took a leading role in the sentor class play and helped manage the baseball and track teams: Mr. Freeman started to Martinsville high school in 1922, but quit after ‘his freshman year. A few years later, he enlisted for 8 hitch in the navy, later served 13% years in ‘the national guard company here at Martinsville, However, he was discharged early in world war IT and spent most of the conflict operating a machine in an Indianapolis war® plant. He has three sons, George, a freshman; Leroy, a sixth grader, and Loren, a fourth grader. He decided to return to school for two reasons. The first was a warning from his doctor that he outed a year of comparative rest, second was that he had found it dificult to obtain good employment without a high school diploma, he said. He majored in bookkeeping. Principal Royce Kurtz stated that his grades were “average.” He received credit for approximately two years of high school work for his training in the armed forces. Only two members of the .high school faculty remain of those who were here during his freshman year, he said. :
