Tires That Look Worn Add More Speed to Car

A look at the rear tires of the race cars at the Speedway this year would make one wonder how the drivers would dare take their mounts around the track on “those old worn casings.” Actually the worn appearing tires are a development of Fire stone research engineers. The new tires are designed to put more tread on the track and to the cars as much as two miles hour more speed. The enginsay they run cooler than pretires. x P. Moore, head of the Fire stone headquarters at the Speedway, sald the tread pattern for the tire was developed at the Ascot race track in California.
