During more than four years of war, we, the people of Indianapolis and Marion County participated together, through our United War and Community Fund in one of the greatest voluntary efforts this country has ever known. Together, you contributed during that four-year fetid more than $7,000,000. In as vast an enterprise as the United War and Community Fund it is impossible for your officers and board members to express adequate appreciation to6 all who so richly deserve our thanks. It was a time when everyone pulled together, when men, women and children of all faiths, creeds and color joined together in a single, united effort. Your unselfish support of the United War and Community Fund gave aid and strength to our suffering Allies, built morale and provided recreational facilities throughout the world for our own boys and girls in the armed forces, and enabled us to do the job that was so necessary here on the home front. This prompt and planned program combined all appeals into one, with orderly and business-like administration and distribution of funds. It asgured you that your contributions of money and time as volunteer workers would be used to greatest advantage and without wasteful duplication of effort and expense.

It has added greatly to the spiritual wellbeing of our

community, and it has been a great experience in organized cooperation. It resulted not only in a wartime job well done, but in a pattern for greater welfare here at home in the days of peace, and for the future happiness and security of our own land. # To you who gave and took part in this great enterprise, we say THANKS. The United War and Community Fund was dissolved by its board of directors May 15. An accounting of all funds collected and disbursed is shown in the accompanying financial statement.
