Sift flour, measure and resift three times with soda and salt. Cream butter and add one-half cup of the sugar. Beat egg yolks until thick and add; stir in vanilla. Rice potatoes while hot. Combine with cream and beat then add to creamed butter mixture. Add dry ingredients in three portions and mix after each addition. Stir in nuts and chocolate.

Beat egg whites, add remaining|-

sugar and fold quickly into batter. Pour into tube pan lined with thin plain paper. Do not grease. Bake at 350 degrees (moderate oven) for 50 minutes or until cake tests done. Serves 10 to 12.
