The army is anxious to-turn-out good citizens as well as good From: the moment the trainée climbs out of bed at 6 a. m. until he turns in at 9 p. m. old mother army controls his time. Prosecutors can rip a poor alibi to shreds and juries will slap seven days’ hard labor—all the book permits—on a convicted buddy without blinking an eye. Capt. John P. Stafford of “Cordova, Md, the unit's judge advocate general, frequently argues for leniency. As a general rule, he says, the boys impose tougher sentences than their officers. Thomas ~W. Bullitt, prominent Louisville attorney, who serves as an adviser to trainee courts, say they “instill a sense of responsibility to the community in each trainee.”
