By LOUISE FLETCHER _ Times Woman's Editor A PAIR of gardens will burst nto bloom next week at Block's. The first floor, over the week-end, is going to be transformed into a “Garden of Beauty” centering around the cosmetic department. And there, to help out with advice on beauty problems, will be representatives of 3 cosmetic
Cosmetic purchases during the | week will be specially packaged in cellophane containers topped by fresh gardenias. The gardenias—10,000 of them ~will be flown in from Oregon on Sunday.
w » # THE OTHER garden will be on the store's second floor. And the “blooms” will be ‘Fashions of Beauty,” keyed to the perfumes being featured in the Garden of Beauty, The costumes will be modeled in the store's tearoom during the week as well as on the fashion floors. A highlight of the fashion presentation will be the introduction of blossom-tone hosiery. . These, of filmy nylon, provide Just an illusion of color. The flower shades are red clover, blue hyacinth, mimosa yellow, moss green, blue iris and petal pink, and are suggested for wear with harmonizing costumes. o Companions to the blossom tones are shades for wear with more staple costume colors: Sil. ver blue, black illusion, whimsy (beige-y brown), pebble (fawn), Windsor (taupe gray) and tropic blush (rosy tan).

EARLY INDIANA INFLUENCE—Turquoise wrought iron table and chairs ascented with plum velvet cushions give this dining room a fine old Hoosier flavor. An unusual arrangement of wall brackets adds a modern note. ;
By. JEAN TABBERT COMFORT, tradition ' and “Hoosier” hospitality are the keynotes of six “Indians rooms” dis~ played at Ayres’ this month. The exhibit opened this week. To give an added touch of local interest, the rooms are dot~ ted with contributions from many of Indiana's own or adopted sons. For instance, in the music room, “suggested by Hoosier scenes and songs,” is a baton with which Fabien Sevitzky, Indianapolis symphony orchestra conductor, directed 88 concerts. Dr.. Sevitzky has autographed the display. Twin shadow boxes containing original manuscripts of Hoagy Carmichael's “Hongkong Blues” and the Indiana’ university hymn, “Chimes of Indiana,” also are exhibited in this room. # » » AN INTERESTING drapery arrangement accents the coral and leaf green color scheme of the room. Used as a background for a blond-finished radio-phono-graph, brown drapes edged in coral are hung between beige glass curtains, Drapes are made of homespun fabric. An Indiana brown-and-white print is used as “wallpaper” and
print, “At Home in Inlians,” includes seven scenes from Hoosierland. These are of Spring Mill state
Sixteen pencil sketches of the occupant’s Shortridge friends— there's a print of the school’ above her bed—are scattered over the walls in planned designs. . 0 THE living-dining room is perhaps the most functional of the
sextet. It combines modernity with comfort and an overall
homespun effect. “Cardinal song,” sn Indians print of the state bird and flower in conventional design, is made in pumpkin yellow which gives the room a mellow note. The yellow is picked up again in the covers of an old-fashioned rocker and a modern-type lounge chair's cover. A drop-leaf table is lighted with tall brass candlesticks placed at either end to eliminate that high centerpiece problem. The brass is used again in a candle~ holder design above the fireplace, combining light with a niche for plants, : # » Fd THE candleholders are grouped around a portrait of flerce-look-ing “Hyacinth” Lasselle, the man

A LEVEL top on shortcake is important so that the fruit or filling will go on smoothly. To get a level top, the shortcake batter should be soft enough pushed up slightly higher around the rim of the pan than in the cen ov
