during the next 24 hours.) Clear skies are promised the Dakotas, Kansas and portions of Oklahoma, Colorado, Nevada and California. It will be partly cloudy in New England, Florida, Texas, the northern and central Rockies, southern California and the northern Plains except the Dakotas. (The small inset map shows the degree of cloud coverage which will exist during the next 24 hours.) Rain will occur in the Virginias, Pennsylvania, the Lakes region and Iowa. Showers will be the lot of Illinois, Indiana, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and most of Montana. . Temperatures will rise in the northeast as a warm southerly air flow sets in around a high pressure cell off the southern New England coast. It will also be warmer ‘in the southwestern states. Cold windy weather will follow the passage of the cold front extending from Illinois to Texas. (See air mass arrow.) Much of the precipitation pictured over the eastern and central portions of the nation will be caused by warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico as it clashes with cold air in the frontal area.
