Van will invade the home farther, way out of the teen-ager’s hearts. M-G-M record 10018, which is due in local stores in about a week, features Mr. Johnson’ singing “I Wonder, I Wonder, I Wonder,” and “Goodnight, Sweetheart,” both with Sonny Burke's orchestra, Mr, Johnson has a fair voice which will neither lose the fans who already liked him nor gain those who didn't. . - w ” COLUMBIA HAS two pew releases that should push up into the selling brackets. One features the all-star Metronome band on “Sweet Lorraine” with Frank Sinatra providing vocals. The star studded aggregation includes: Harry Carney, baritone sax; Johnny Hodges, alto sax; Coleman Hawkins, tenor sax; Charlie Shavets, trumpet; King Cole, piano; Buddy Rich, drums; Eddie Safranski, bass, and Bob Ahern, guitar. The second side couples June Christy and Nat Cole on “Nat Meets June.” It's an original jump tune featuring brilliant instrumental by the Metronome orchestra and smooth vocals.

‘oof » THE OTHER COLUMBIA release probably should have been made as a pietire record ‘since it features Jane Russell, star of “The

The large bedroom was pleasantly warm and the morning sun streamed in in slanting shafts. Through the long windows she could see white houses with red roofs, and behind them the bluegreen hills. : The view had had a lot to do ‘with Sherry's taking the apartment in {the Chateau; but Peter had Mked the French Norman apartment {hotel because it was new and smart and exclusive, 5 Peter always liked the thing that |was smart ang exclusive. It was {funny she had not realized how studied his fastidiousness was before she married him. It did not seem quite sincere, somehow, to want a thing only because it was conservative and expensive. ' Peter was discriminating about people too. He was always pleasant but carefully nonchalant to the important ones. This attitude seemed to interest them. Sherry felt now that it was deliberate and clever, and she both admired and disliked it in him, although, of course, she never spoke showy it.

SHERRY STRETCHED again and regarded the hills. After a while Jenny came in with her breakfast. Jenny was fat and clean. She looked at the other twin bed with its bright satin comforter. folded at the foot and said, “Mister Barton away again, Miss Birton? You know, you shouldn't be alone so much, a young girl like you.” Sherry plumped the pillows behind her to sit up, and sald that Mr. Barton - was on location and that she liked to be alone.

Jenny said. “If my George weren't home nights when I got there, I'd

SWOONER NOW CROON. ER—Van Johnson makes a try for more acclaim from the teenagers with a try in singing on a new M-G-M record. "I've sung a little before," the bobbysox idol said, "but this is my first try at records."

» » o THE FANS LEAVE the show and head for the nearest record shop to buy the record. Unfortunately, however, the band has never recorded it. The same tune, known variously as the “Red Cavalry March™ and “Russian Patrol,” has been made by Jerry Gray (Mercury) and Ray Bloch (Signature). Other new releases include: M-G-M—Art Lund makes his first recording since his split with Benny Goodman and it measures up to his past performance. He couples “Mam’selle,” a tune from “Razor's Edge,” with “Sleepy Time Gal.”

ON THE INSTRUMENTAL side, David Rose puts his orchestra

through {ts paces on “Misirlou,” coupled with “California Medleys.” Helen Forrest waxes two up and coming tunes, “The Egg and I” and “Who Cares What People Say?” The latter is the heartthrob song from the movie, “Nora Prentiss.” Jimmy ‘Dorsey features a duet, Bob Carroll and Dee Parker on “Quien Sabe,” (“Who Knows?” in English). She sipped her iced orange juice and thought about the iingerie. It all came from the shop in’ Beverly now, and was “designed” and hand ‘made. It would be fun to slosh it gently in warm suds. She: would like to iron it , and the buttonholes stand out and watch the pleats come crisp and smooth.

» 2 » BUT DR. DREXELL had said she must take things easy for a year or s0, and except forthe mornings her hairdresser came to the apartment to “do” her hair and nails, Sherry slept until after 10. She was all well now and weighed the right amount, and she could swim and dance and go places if she did not get overtired. Peter had been paying Dr. Drexell all along. She knew that now. Sherry ate her egg and crisp toast and sipped her cholocate. It was nice that the boys were the same. Three good friends that, married or unmarried, shé would have all her life. Things had nob been so different after all. When Peter had asked her to marry him -she had told him that she was sorry but she did not think she loved him. Peter had not minded. He had talked it over with the boys and pointed out the advantages he could give her. They had all discussed it yery sénsibly. Yes, Sherry thought, it was all very sensible, and it had certainly been the right thing to do all around. Her mother and father had been very happy about it and letter to welcome him as a son-in-law. Peter had replied more than satisfactorily and, knowing their presént ‘position, he had suggested that Sherry send them a small allowdice weekly. She Was very grateul.

They said nice things about her and that she was different. Sherry was glad of that. It made Peter more interesting too. He could show his success now by the way his wife was dressed and how she lived. Besides, a wife whom people thought was. charming was naturally a social addition. Was that why Peter had married her? Sherry tossed a curl back im{patiently and chose a delph blue] {flannel sports skirt and a pair of gray suede oxfords. Stop snooping! she thought. (Columbia, 12-inch, two sides.) One of the most popular works in the musical literature of the supernatural. It is a vivid tong picture of demons celebrating the Black Mass atop Bald mountain, and Reiner brings out the power and fury of the exciting score. CHOPIN: INTRODUCTION AND POLONAISE BRILLANTE, in C Major (Op. 3), played by Gregor Platigorsky, ’'cellist, and; Valentin Pavlovsky, pianist. (Columbia, 12-

reading of one of the most notable compositions for cello and piano. LISZT: HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY NO. 2, as transcribed by MullerBerghaus, played by the Philadelphia orchestra conducted by Eugene | Ormandy. (Columbia, 12-inch, two parts.) A stirring, vivid performance of the pyrotechnical Second,

with Liszt based on poignant gypsy songs and fiery gypsy dances. TCHAIKOVSKY: EUGEN ONEGIN, on one sid the “Polonaise” and on the other side the “Waltz.” Played by the Halle orchestra conducted by Malcolm Sargent. (Columbia, 12-inch). These two charming compositions are great favorites | with music lovers who have heard them many more times on “pop” concert programs than in their original opera context. The Halle orchestra is one of the top musical organizations of England, and this is one of several American pressings of their most successful recordings. HAMMERSTEIN-RODGERS: CAROUSEL, the “Soliloquy”, sung © by Frank Sinatra with orchestra conducted by Axel Stordahl, (Columbia, 12-inch, two parts.)
