is concerned, is evidenced by figures

By BERNARD HARMON That the present bowling season is a great improvement over the 1045-46 campaign as far as scoring

[showing most of last season’s records already have been surpassed. In men's leagues 24 games of 700 pins or more were posted last season. At present, with six full weeks of competition still on the schedule, 44 pinmen have hit the 700-mark. Last season Bob Earl was the lone leaguer to collect more than one. He had two. So far this season, six have entered the select circle twice. They are Bob Carnagua, Ed Huck Jr., Johnny Kiessel, Fonnie Snyder, Earl Taylor and John Murphy. Not only is the quantity of scoring up this season, but the quality has [also shown great improvement. Last season, HerfI-Jones held the season's three-game record of 3131 and Fehr's X-L Beer the best single game, 1139. At present, Indiana Fur tops the scoring over the three-game route with 3301 and Rost Jewelry holds the single game record with 1182, 730 Is High In individual ranks, Ralph Richman's 780, the present local season three-game mark, is two pins better than Al Weevie had to win last season’s laurels. Of course, no one has beaten Jack Hunt's 300 ‘hat was top single game last season,

games during the present league races. Bob Shaw, Chester Ryan and Paul Mansfield have thrown the necessary 12 consecutive strikes. Male bowlers are still far behind the pace set in the 1930's and early '40’s when the total number of 700s passed, the 100 mark several seasons, The peak season was 1932-33 when 173, 700-series were posted. In several instances it was common for an individual to connect for 10 or more during a single campaign. The late Jess Pritchard Sr. had 17 during the '32-'33 season; Fred Shaw had 11

1940-41. Murphy Topples 703 Murphy was the latest entrant into the double-700 class, topping last night's league sessions with 220, 214, 269—703, to make the grade. He was in action with Bowes Seal Fast in the Indianapolis league at Pritchett’s, leading that team to 3086, the best five-man series of the evening. Two other Indianapolis league fives topped 3000, Meisterbrau Beer getting 3047 and Stumpf Bros. 3011. Patty Striebeck stretched her lead over other rivals in the feminine race for the most 600-totals. She now has 10 to her credit, after posting 192, 223, 234—649 for Davidson’s Indiana Fur in the Ernest Johnson Coal Co. session at FoxHunt. ’
