find himself swinging gently down through space under a parachute without ever leaving ‘his seat. That's what would happen if congress adopts the recommendations of two parachute company repre: sentatives and a member of the famed Caterpillar club. They testified before the house interstate commerce committee, investigating ‘ways ‘of preventing com‘mercial airline accidents. H. G. Rogers of the Irving Air Chute Co. of New York suggested having people parachute to safety without leaving their seats, by installing concealed chair chutes in all commercial planes. The beauty of it all, he said, would be that the passenger would not even be aware of the chute unless it were needed. No bad psychological effects to discourage air’ travel, Mr. Rogers said.

Warn Against Peddlers Of Fake Maple Syrup
A Warning against peddlers of fake maple syrup was issued today by the state board of health. Fake maple syrup often is made of sugar or molasses or corn syrup, diluted with water and cooked. It is flavored with imitation maple and then clarified, possibly with corn cobs. At the worst, the board said, the conditions under which it is produced are insanitary. At best, the

Six-Cent Gasoline From Coal Seen
CHICAGO, Aprii 2 (U. P).— Gasoline produted from coal at a cost of less than 6 cents per gallon was predicted here today by Ralph A. Sherman, supervisor of the fuels division of Battelle Memorial institute, Columbus, O. Mr. Sherman said that fluid fuels synthesized from coal will attain increasing importance. “Our proved resources of petroleum and natural gas appear to be great enough for only a relatively short period in the face of a continually
increasing demand,” he told the Midwest Power conference. Coal resources he termed “almost limitless.” , Atgmic power plants on a large scale probably will not compete with those using other fuels for at least two decades. Coal and liquid fuels will retain their present importance
for a longer period, Mr. Sherman contended. -
