Servicing the camp includes repairing roofs, modernizing the kitchen, replacing tents, keeping the swimming pool in order and seeing that pumps are in good condition. A full-time caretaker is employed to supervise the work. He also directs volunteer . men's groups who often come out to help on week-ends. » » » DELLWOOD was established in 1926 on 141 acres of woodland purchased by Mrs. Paul Moffett, then Miss Dorothy Dell. Formerly the old Pugh estate, it dates back to pioneer times and includes many interesting sites. The remodeled “pioneer cabin” which stands at the Dellwood entrance was built 117 years ago by Jesse Pugh and his Virginiaborn bride. Their old sheep barn is now the mess hall. It also was renovated with cookie money. Today the camp buildings .number 12. Several were erected with cookie sale proceeds. '

THE SCOUTS need a new camping site for the older girls. Until it is found, trip camping fills the gap. The girls stop at Scout camps whenever possible on the trips, and are accompanied by trained personnel. A temporary site at McCormick's Creek now is rented for the teen-agers for four summer weeks. Day camping provides the largest number of girls with camping experience. Since 1945 commun-ity-minded citizens have lent camp sites for the progrant One near Speedway City ‘is given by A. R. Dittrich. Emsley Johnson owns the one at Tlst st. and one near Beech Grove is contributed by O. A. Haines. The girls carry on their camp-

ing program during the day and

prepare their own noon lunch. Proceeds from cookie sales have still other uses. They pay for the upkeep of the Girl Scout Little House on 14th st. Here at least 500 persons are trained each year in various courses. Troops have parties: mothers hold meetings; committees confer. . : ” » PERHAPS most important of all, cookie funds send a number of underprivileged Scouts to camp each summer.
