Plans to Ask Murder Charge In Bomb Death

Police Chief Keeps Evidence Secret

SANTA ANA, Cal, March 21 (U, P.) ~Police Chief R. R. Hodgkin~ son of Newport Beach said today that on the basis of new, undisclosed evidence he would ask for murder complaints against . Coed Beulah Louise Overell, 17, and her sweetheart, for the time bomb murder of her parents. Pending & conference with Orange county. Sheriff James Musick and District Attorney James L. Davis, the sheriff refused to disclose the clues which he hinted had been developed. Final decision on the complaints rests with Mr. Davis. He had been at political ‘odds with Mr. Musick before the power cruiser Mary E. blew up Sunday, killing Mr. and rs. Walter Overell. Mr. Musick

* made the arrests.

Administrator Asked

At Los Angeles, Attorney Winthrop M. Crane filed petitions with Superior Judge Harold B. Jeffry, asking appointment of the Farmers and Merchants National bank as special administrator for the $600,000 estate of the couple. Miss Overell is sole heir,

The girl, a University of Southern”

California freshman, calmly playéd solitaire in her jail cell. ~~ She was unruffied as shefiffs and police investigators sought to shake her denial that she and 21-year-old ‘George (Bud) Gollum plotted to kill her parents by blowing up the family cruiser, Miss Overell was not allowed to see Her’ flance, held in a separate

cell. She was told he had sent his|

love. ‘So Calm and Strong’

“That's just like Bud—so calm and #trong,” she said. “He always stood by me when things went wrong.” Police found dynamite wired to a clock in the wreckage of the Mary E. Bits of evidence were collected yesterday by Sheriff Musick and Police Chief Hodgkinson. Sheriff Musick sald two coils of wire found in Gollum’s automobile matched that used in wiring the time bomb. A roll of tape in the car also was similar to that used in constructing the bomb. The sheriff disclosed interest in packages of sleeping pills in Gollum’s car. The sheriff also showed interest in the fact that the youth, who planned to wed Miss Overell on April 30, her 18th birthday, moved into her home the day after her parents’ death.

Suspect Is ‘Amazed’ Gollum, a premedical student at Los Angeles City college, scoffed at the evidence. The wire came from a garage, he said, and the tape was! “a kind that you can buy at any| drugstore.” Of the sleeping pills, he declared he was “playing with them,” said

Sheriff Musick, who pointed out]

that the powder from some capsules had been removed. ~ Gollum also said he was “amazed” at the sheriff's interest in his moving into the Overell home. “Louise was alone and needed someone with her,” he said. “We were chaperoned by the housekeeper.”

} An autopsy by Dr. John Montanus

showed Mr. Overell, 62, and his wife, Beulah, 57, died of multiple skull fractures. Their stomachs

were sent to a Sacramento, Cal,

laboratory to be analyzed.
