Pilot Bails Out Of Gasless Plane
BELLEVILLE, Ill, March 17 (U. P.)~First Lt. C. L. Neidy, Ogden. Utah, was“in a Scott fleld hospita: today after lying injured for 18 hours in an isoalated area where he bailed out of his gasless fighter plane. Lt. Neidy, an army pilot, was suffering a compound leg fracture and shock. ‘He was found by an funidentified farm couple 27 miles from the wreckage of his plane. Lt. Neidy's P-47 plane was reported overdue _Baturday on a routine flight trom Hensley field, Pt. Worth, Tex., to Scott fleld. The wrecked plane was found near Damiansville, Ill, 27 miles northeast of Mascoutah, Ill.
Lt. Neidy said his parachute caught in a branch and that he dangled from the tree for an hour before falling to the ground: Army authorities said the pilot still was strapped in his parachute harness when he was found.
