SHADOW OVER GREECE—Map above shows why U. S. foreign policy chiefs, light a danger signal that may move the U. S. to intervene in Greece and Turkey to halt the spread of Communism. Turkey has long been under pressure to grant Russia free access to the vital Dardanelles strait. With Greece and its strategically located islands along the Turkish coast under Communist domination, Turkey would be almost surrounded by pro-Soviet regimes. More Low Income
CHICAGO, March 14 (U. P).— The housing industry must stop catering to the luxury trade and find some way of producing more homes for the low income group, Senator Charles W. Tobey (R. N. H.) said today.’ Senator Tobey, in an address before the National Public Housing committee last night recommended formation of mutual home ownership associations for the “millions of families who may never be able to afford an individually constructed, individually financed home.” The senator charged that the home building industry has at all times “failed to provide sufficient housing accommodations for the needs of the people.” “The housing industry has been tied up by the lack of regular flow of materials, an absence of centralized managerial direction and outmoded traditionalism in handicraft methods of production,” Senator Tobey charged.

CIO Renews Talk 0f Union Merger
WASHINGTON, March 14 (U. U,).—The C. L O. told the A. F. of L. today that the two rival labor organizations must meet immediately to plan a united offensive against “the reactionary drive in congress.” ~ C. I. O. President Philip Murray repeated an invitation to the A. F.| of L. to discuss merger, but he said | the C. I O. still believed a joint drive to head off “anti-labor” and “witch-hunting” legislation must come first. The A. F. of L. has requested a meeting, but insists the proposed merger must be the first subject of consideration. The C. I. O. executive board issued a statement saying that instead of heeding labor's pleas for higher living standards, congress was “focusing its attention upon the passage of anti-labor legislation and has embarked on a widespread drive against the basic civil liberties and general welfare of the people.”

{ NEW YORK, March 14 (U. P).—| The army signal corps and the General Electric Co. will co-operate on a research program to control the weather. The immediate objective of the program, announced late yesterday, was to disperse fog and clouds over airports, but eventually the experimenters hope to do more. . Dr. C. G. Suits, vice president and director of the G. E. research lab-| oratory in Schenectady, N. Y., said while a general plan of weather control “lies far in the distant future, some influencing of weather condition—the clearing up of an overcacst, for instance is a distinct possibility.” G. E. scientists have conducted weather experiments for several years. Last November Vincent J. Schaefer and several associates caused some snowfall over Greylock mountain in western Massachusetts by dropping six pounds of dry ice pellets into a cloud from an airplane.
