‘Board of Accounts To Make Check
The state board of accounts was asked today by: county commissiorters to make a special audit of the |county highway department books in order to turn them over to the
newly appointed “road superinten-
dent, Samuel Hollingsworth. Ray Mendenhall, county commissioners, said the procedure was “only: routine in order to clear the slate. for the new superintendent.” Mr. Hollingsworth was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Robert R. Fisher as highway superintendent to take a job as assistant superintendent of Julietta hospital. Rumors that the audit was being asked because of alleged irregularities in the records were “denied by Mr. Mendenhall and the other two commissioners, William T. Ayres and William Bosson. “All -the highway department records are double-checked through the .county auditor's office and by the state board of accounts and we know there are no irregularities,” Mr. Mendenhall said.
