against the employee, - . The employes, Henry J. Strohm, 64, of 950 N. Dearborn st., became nervous on St. Valentine's day when the inspectors were making their periodic check of postal funds. He became so nervous, the. inspectors said, he pleaded illness at noon and went home. Curious, they decided to look at the records he kept on a $10,000 credit in war savings stamps.

Hadn't Intended Check

The inspectors said they had not intended to check Strohm's account for some time, but his behavior in their presence . made them suspicious. In his account, they said, they found an $800 check from a downtown ‘church which had not been deposited for two weeks. An exe amination disclosed that the check had been forged, inspectors sald. Strohm admitted on questioning that he had forged the check to make up a shortage in stamp funds. He used the funds to pay personal and household bills, he said, in an affidavit filed with U, 8. Commissioner Fae Patrick. He said he intended to make up the shortage.

In Post Office 45 Years

Walving preliminary examination, Strohm was bound over to ‘the federal grand jury on embezzlement charges in $2000 bond, on which he has been released from detention. He has been suspended from his post after 45 years of service in the post office at Bluffton and- here, punctuated: by military service during the first world war.
