Defeat Tec For Seventh City Victory

| Wade's Overtime Firing Turns Trick

By J. E. O'BRIEN

| Perhaps it's fitting on Lincoln's | birthday to give a war-whoop or | two for Bhortridge's Blue-bedecked | basketball forces from up north. "Coach Jerry Steiner has fashioned | a team that obviously must be re- | garded as the sectional favorite. The © Blue’ Devils have won 15 of 18 and | posted seven victories in eight city | games, losing only to Broad Ripple | by one point, At the Tech gym last night, where | the fans were terraced right up | among the steel beams, the Blue i Devils kept their heads on those occasions when they lost the lead | and finally turned back Tech, 33-30, | in an overtime engagement. . 1 Shortridge jumped off to a wide g lead, held a 10-8 advantage at | the quarter, a 14-10 margin at the i ¥ half and a 19-17 lead at the three- | quarter turn, although Gordon | King's two straight driving baskets : % had put Tech temporarily in comi mand, 17-186. Things Warm Up Things really warmed up in the L fourth session as the players called H on their extra stamina and the fans on their heavy-duty tonsils. : . Jack Aldridge’s basket after a pass i interception returned the lead to £ Tech at 20-19, and it looked for a while that the Greenclads would * stay in front. " But Bob Benjamin drew a bead "on the bucket for three straight free throws, and the game was all | square again at 23-23.

then tried a possession game, but Don Stark purloined the ball and laid in the tying basket just before gun-time. Wade's big moments came in the added period-and he made the most of them, tallying two baskets and dropping in four free throws. This performance gave him high-point honors for the evening with 16. As far as styles went, Shortridge

CHICAGO, Feb. 12 (U., P).— Notre Dame won its 14th basketball victory of the season last night with an easy 52-44 triumph over the Northwestern Wildcats in the Chicago stadium. For only the first three minutes was the Irish victory in doubt. Center John Brennan then plunked in a rebound and a half minute later Kevin O'Shea netted a long push shot to make the score 5-1 for Notre Dame. Northwestern never managed to cut the gap to less than four points thereafter and at one time Notre Dame was ahead by 17. The Irish were superlative on the boards and 6-foot 4#4inch center, John Brennan and 6-foot 3%-inch Leo Barnhorst were chiefly respon sible for the triumph. The two paired up on nearly every rebound and effectively blocked out the Wildcats’ plungers play after play, Brennan tied forward Frank Curran for scoring honors, each with 12 points,

vided that Cathedral can take Crispus Attucks of the road Saturday night. The Irish sharpened thémselves for that task last night by defeating Decatur Central, 34-31. The victory, which concluded Cathedral's home schedule for the season, was the 13th in 18 games for the Irish. Cathedral staged an eightpoint surge as the clock ran out to overcome the Hawks’ advantage. Pearson of Cathedral scored 10 points, while high-point honors went to Relich of Decatur Central, with 12 points, In the only other game Franklin Township won its 15th game by defeating Greenwood, 35-30. The Flashes missed 17 of 26 free throws and bagged "only 13 field goals. That's far below par for their 46-point-a-game machine,
