Capitals in Thick of Hot Race for Western Lead

ES

The werk.ond series between the \dianapolis hockey Caps and the > eveland Barons wound up with a wo-point gain for the Hooslers— pd now four teams are locked in a struggle for the American e's western division lead. The Barons hold the upper hand, bf course, but like in baseball, you ever can tell. Slumps are unpreHictable and usually it's pressure at brings them on. And that hressure is now being applied on Pleveland. The Barons have had their lead gin sliced to five points, over both Indianapolis and Buffalo, who tied in points for second place, nd Pittsburgh is six behind Cleveand and only one behind both DApitals and Bisons. At Cleveland Saturday night, the Hoosiers and Barons mixed it freely n a 3-to-2 tie and only a freak Dleveland goal prevented the Caps g that one. . Crowd of 9747

Voting to kill or pass House Bill No. 142 will start about || o'clock tomorrow morning— Tuesday, February | |—in the Indiana House of Representatives. This is one of the insurance BLACK MARKET bills that attempts to legalize discriminatory practices in Indiana whieh othetwise would violate certain Federal aws.

A secret BLACK MARKET in automobile insurance would result from approval of House Bill No. 142. For the ordinary car owner this would mean paying high MAXIMUM prices for HIS oa insurance. ,Favored and influential car owners could make secret deals for low cut rates on THEIR automobile i in surance. Even if the bill did not require the Indiana Insurance Department to keep these rice deals secret, as it does in its present orm, it still would be a bad BLACK MARKET bill because it tries to legalize price discrimination against the ordinary car owner.

It would hurt the small insurance agent. It would hurt the small insurance company. MOST IMPORTANT, it would hurt the PU LIC. The loss of premiums due to rate-cut-ting for favored policyholders would’ have to be made up by the thousands of ordinary car owners. ® 0 0

First setback for House Bill No. 142 came last Thursday, when it was called up for vote in the indiana House o Representatives. There

“was such a roar rotest that the voting had to be Tou oi p for five days.

KILL the Insurance BLACK MARKET Bills!

Delaying tactics gave the high command of the insurance agents’ organization a chance— over the week-end—to send out a state-wide call for help in putting pressure on the legis lature. Tonight and tomorrow those insur ance agents around the state who hope to benefit under the bill will come streaming into Indianapolis. It is safe to predict that several hundred of them will descend on the Steve House Tuesday morning—button-holi resentatives from their districts to ol en them . that these agents WANT this BLACK MARKET bill passed. : : A

There is no doubt that such insurance agents WANT it passed. The important question iss DOES THE PUBLIC WANT IT PASSED?

The public is wade up of thousands upon thousands of ordinary car owners, are almost compelled to buy automobile insurs. ance under the Financial Responsibility Law. It does not need to send a horde of special representatives to the Capitol to fight a bill which is against its interests. The represens tatives of the public are the members of the Indiana legislature. The public elected them

last November.

As one of the BLACK MARKET" bill, o- 3 Bill No. 142 is worst of the bad lot of insur ance proposals thrown into the face ‘of the
