tell the players WITH a program,
But light or dark, the Caps were meat for the Redskins last night, They couldn't seem to hit their usual stride and about everything they tried went haywire, Almas Flat The winning goal, for example, was fired at a wide open cage left 80 when Defenseman Dan Summers was jammed into Goalie Red Almas and the Cap net-tender was flat on the ice with Summers trying desperately to scramble off him. The loss left the Caps in a precarious position for the coming week-end. They're two points back of Cleveland and only two in front of the surging Buffalo Bisons. Buf-
- falo expects an easy time at Phila-
delphia tomorrow night while the Caps must play the league-leading Bears at Hershey. Indians Take Lead The Indians went out in front in the initial period after putting the Caps on the defensive early in the game, Ed Nicholson got caught in & Springfield rush in front of the goal and his stick was jerked out of his hands,
The Cap defenseman checked anyway and was sent to the box for two minutes servitude for playing without a stick. It was while he was off that the Indians scored. John Quilty stationed himself at the right cage post and flipped an easy one past Almas at 8:11 after taking a pass from Bob Dawes. The middle period was __action-

Springfield drew three penalties during the period but the Redskin cagekeeper was nothing short of sensational, in stopping other Cap pokes, Cliff Simpson tied things up for the Caps at the start of the hectic third period, but Bill Summerhill sent Springfield ,out ahead, 4-3, about three minutes later. Simpson again gave the Caps a tie after faking Perras out of position, Courteau fired the winning marker at 14:16 of the period and the Caps were unable to square things although the goalie was taken off in favor of another forward in the closing seconds, while Springfield was short-handed. :

SOUTH BEND, Ind, Jan. 24-— The Notre Dame basketball team will be seeking to avenge one of its two losses of the season .tomorrow
u night when it entertains the Purdue
Boilermakers in the Notre” Dame gym. Tip-off time is 8 p. m. Coach Mel Taubes Purdue quintet, after jumping into an early 17 to 3 lead, handed Notre Dame a 60 to 56 defeat on Jan, 11 in the Purdue Fieldhouse. The only other loss suffered by the Irish this season was a 53 to 49 defeat by. Wisconsin's Badgers, who currently lead the Big Nine conference race. i After the initial Notre DamePurdue game the Boilermakers dropped successive decisions to Indiana and Michigan before bounding back with a victory over Iowa. The only other loss for the Purdue five was to a strong U. C. L. A. team, and the

Purdue is expected to start the same five that looked so impressive in the Boiledmakers' first conquest of the Irish. Paul Hoffman and Bill Lodge will be at forwards, Jim Ertel at center and Eddie Ehlers and Bill Berberian at the guards. In the event Hoffman, who suffered an injured leg in the Iowa game, is unable to start, his place probably will be taken by Paul Anderson. Coach Krause still is undecided as to one of the Notre Dame starting positions. John Kelly has shown much improvement recently and started the Detroit game at forward in palce of George Retterman. The Irish mentor said their showing in practice this week will decide the

With a record entry in the men's state meet, also to be held in Indianapolis, assured, -it is felt the women pastimers will continue to support their state meet as Shey have in recent years, The highscoring of the first three days of the week came to an end last night, men bowlers being .unable to continue their string of 700 shooters that were in evidence Monesday nights, Feminine pastimers failed to land a member in 600 circles for the first time this week. It may have been light troufle,
causing long dimouts in practically every alley in the city, that halted the heavy-scoring parade, but lights or no lights, it just wasn’t there,
