AFL Butchers Here File No Pay Suits

Indianapolis A. F. of L. butchers will file no “portal-to-portal” back pay suits, Louis B. Daniels announced today. Pointing out that all contracts negotiated by Local 167, Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butchers, A. F. of L., which he heads, were based on complete agreement between the union and employers, he said: “Employers who acted -in good faith. .. . ought not now, in our opinion, suffer the embarrassment of long legal controversy in matters which neither side could. forsee at the time the representatives of both groups attached their signatures to these contracts.” Pointing out that his organization is not attempting to pass judgment on the merit of suits already filed by other unions, , Mr. Daniels said he felt such suits ‘might lead to unfair curbs on labor.
