By UNITED PRESS The Rochester Royals appeared to have the National basketball league's eastern division well in hand today, but the western race, featuring the changing fortunes of its ghree top teams, was still a hairline affair following the circuit's four week-end games. Indianapolis’ Kautskys dropped from first td third in the close western scramble when they lost to the Oshkosh All-Stars, 45 to 38, on Saturday night. Oshkosh, along with the Anderson Packers, who did not play over the week-end, went into a tie for first place with 11 victories and five losses each. Indianapolis, with 13 triumphs against six defeats, was three percentage points behind the two leaders. Rochester swamped the Detroit

Saturday game. The Toledo Jeeps defeated the Pt. Wayne Zollners, 68 to 67, and ye Chicago Gears downed the Youngstown Bears, 55 to 45, in games last night.

In submitting the report, which! | revealed that there were more di‘rect fatalities during the past season than in any year since 1936, Dr. Eastwood pointed out that increased participation during 1946 might account for the increase in the number of deaths. Among his recommendations for further safeguarding football players, Dr. Eastwood suggested the appointment of a qualified committee to study the design of head= gears as well as the material used in their construction. He pointed out that over the last 10 years more than 40 per cent of football fatalities have been the result of head injuries.
