3 Are Killed in Detroit Fire
DETROIT, Dec. 18 (U. P.) —Three persons died today in a fire which gutted a two-story rooming house near downtown Detroit.
Five other persons escaped from the blazing structure. Dead were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stincel, Hamilton, O., and Charles Conard, 74, Detroit, Mrs. Anna McKee, 50, the landlady, said four persons were sleeping on ‘the first floor and four on the second when the fire broke out, apparently on the upper story. The Stincels and Mr. Conard were suffocated in their beds, Charles Bins, 56, escaped along with Mrs. McKee, Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Holm, who were sleeping downstairs, and another -down‘stairs visitor.

Girl of 3 Taken As 'Sort of Whim'
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18 (U.P) — Police today, questioned a. disabled ex-marine officer who said he brought 3-year-old Patricia Johnson here from San Diego “as a sort of drunken whim.” The pretty, black-haired child was found, unharmed, at Union station yesterday in company with Harold R. Hoff, 23, who said he met the girl and her father in a San Diego bar Monday. “1 was drinking with the girl's father,” Mr. Hoff said, “and I asked him if I couldn't take the girl with me. He said it was all right, 80 I just took her along.

Surprises Thief Shot Six Times
LA CROSSE, Wis, Dec. 18 (U.

HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 18 (U. P.).— Actress Betty Grable and Bandleader Harry James today answered a sotfologist’s criticism of Hollywood's “childless” population.
