customers.” Tt would be nice if they liked it too. But the little fact that this Wrather lad has a million fortune of his own helps keep him independent. (And there's more coming in all the time from his ofl wells back on those Texds wilds we were talking about.) \ The know-it-alls in Hollywood tried to tell him it couldn't be done. “They meant things like camera

angles and scoring and cutting, I guess,” Mr. Wrather said. “And I'll admit I don’t know anything about that stuff. But I do know how to run a business.” .We hope so. He's got interests in 20 different coporations. And they all make money. “What I do is hire experts who know their jobs,” he explained. “Then I let 'em alone.” “I hired a top director and an ace canreraman,” Mr. Wrather said. “Then I set up a budget of $300,000 for this first picture. And I stuck to it.” j “Then I hired a small cast of players,” he went on. “Maybe ‘not million-dollar names, but good ones. Like Bonita. I pay top salaries— but to just a few people. With a

murder mystery you don'ts need a whole army of actors.” Then he proceeded to turn out the movie his way. The dirty dogs in the plot are dirty dogs all the way through. No last-reel sugarcoating for him. “Bverybody kept telling me that was wrong, too,” he grinned. “But it's the way I want it. And the experts who've seen the flim grudgingly admit I may have something here.” They think he might even make money on it,
