Of Year's Top Sports Yarns

NEW YORK, Dec. 10 (U. P).— Baseball dominated the best 10] sports stories of 1946 which were selected today by United Press| sports writers: Half the 10 concerned baseball— the world series, the National league pennant playoff, the Mexican league, Jackie Robinson making good as the first Negro in organized baseball and the attempts of the American baseball guild to organize players into a labor union. Here are the top 10 as selected by the U. P. sports writers: ONE: The world series in which the underdog Cardinals defeated the Red Sox in seven games, TWO: The Mexican league which lured nearly two dozen U. S. major and minor league stars south of the border and stirred up the resentment of organized baseball in this country. THREE: Assault’s “triple crown” victory and becoming the greatest single season money winner in turf history. FOUR: The Louis-Conn fight, which developed into the post-war | sports world's first big flop. FIVE: The Rose bowl pact be-|
