Committee Finishes : 4-Day Hearings

JACKSON, Miss, Dec. 6 (U, P). —Chairman Allen J, Ellender (D. La.), promised . today his senate campaign committee would have a verdict on the Bilbo election contest in about 10 days, The committee completed four days of public hearings on charges that Senator Theodore G. Bilbo (D. Miss.), incited violence and intimidation to prevent Negro voting in the July 2 Democratic primary.’ It will meet in Washington the week of Dec. 16 to render its decision, Senator Ellender said. licans may decide to challenge Mr. Bilbo's right to take his seat when congress convenes Jan. 3—even if the Democrat-dominated committee absolves him on the campaign charges. The two Republicans on the fiveman committee have been, instructed to submit recommendations to the G. O. P, senate conference called for Dec. 30. The Republicans will be in‘ control when the new

New Dispute Looms on Greece

NEW YORK, Dec. 86 (U. P..Greek charges of foreign inspired guerrilla warfare within her borders threatened today to embroil the United Nations in another East versus West flareup.

There were indications that Greek

complaints against Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Albania would touch off another round of Russian-backed counter charges. These would be aimed at Greece’s monarch—and at British troops stationed there. One ° informed American source described Greece as a potential powder keg and as the key country in Brifish-Soviet rivalry for supremacy in the Balkans. Greek Prime Minister Constantin Tsaldaris opened the latest chapter in nearly a year of controversy, by demanding an “on-the-spot” investigation of incidents on Greece's northern border. Bands of armed men from Yugoslavia, Albania and Bulgaria, he charged, have violated Greek territory in 37 instances. At the same time Greece filed with United Nations ' SecretaryGeneral Trygve Lie charges that the three bordering states had given “substantial support” te the guerrilla warfare plaguitig’ Cf¥eece The latest Greek blast was expected to bring réiteration of Russian charges that British troops in Greece constituted a threat to world peace. Soviet Foreign Minister V. M. Molotov aired these complaints last week before the United Nations political and security committee.

4 Children Die In Connecticut Fire

NEWTOWN, Conn, Dec. 6 (U.P). | —Fire that swept the home and a barn of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Conger today killed four of their six children. The victims were Carol, 8; Audrey, 5; Robert, 2; William, 1. A son, John, 17, was burned on the head and removed to Bridgeport hospital with his parents who also were injured. A sixth child escaped unharmed.
