Scores State Legion For Investigation
(Read editorial Page 24) Times State Service BLOOMINGTON, Ind, Dec, 5.— The Indiana Daily Student today took the American Legion Indiana department to task for devoting its time to an “unnecessary” probe of the Americanism of three Indiana university faculty members instead of combating current domestic problems, The editorial in the university undergraduate newspaper appeared as I. U, trustees prepared to submit a negative report on a two-day investigation of communistic influence on the campus. The T.egion had asked the governor to institute the probe because three I. U, faculty members signed a petition seeking permission for Communist candidates to appear on the state ballot.
Want True Facts “We hope that the true facts will be brought to light shortly and that these facts will prove that thé men are not Communists,” the editorial sald. “In the meantime, there are very important things that the Legion could push: veteran housing, prevention of increased cost of living and settling the coal strike. “W..I. Brunton, state commander of the American Legion, who was here for the meeting, is in a position to direct the action of his organization toward constructive ends. We hope that will be the path of all service organizations, “Communism is not bred in a contented democratic land.” Board to Meet Again The board announced it would meet again Dec, 15 to compile a re-
time before that date to hear further evidence. The trustees yesterday heard department heads and the following student organization presidents:
