The 40th annual tuberculosis Christmas seal sale opens Monday | with Eli Lilly serving as chairman of the sponsoring committee of | business, labor and religious leaders. Conducted by the Marion County Tuberculosis a 8 sociation, the seal | sale is the first] “official” remind-| er of the ap-| proach of the] Christmas season. | Money raised] through the cam-| paign will help the Marion Coun-/ EN Lily ty Tube reulosis | association in its health-building | and life-saving program. The importance qf a successful sale is emphasized in a general letter from Mr. Lilly. He points out that tuberculosis is contagious, that it spreads from the sick to the well and that 246 prsons in Marion county died of the disease last year. | It is said that more than 2000 resi- | dents of the county have active cases of tuberculosis. Others on Committee It is stated by the chairman that “Through your purchase of Christmas seals, you will be helping us in our program to find each ‘open’ case of tuberculosis in our community. We must place them under medical supervision and then provide rehabilitation, This will be a service to them and a protection to others.” Others on the committee are John Acker, Mrs. Frederic M. Ayres, Orville C. Denbo, Rev. John B. Ferguson, Rabbi Morris M. Feuerlicht, Dr. Gerald F. Kempf, Russell A. Lane, James Robb, the Most Rev. Paul C.
