Hebrew Group to Observe 90th Anniversary Nov. 21.
The Indianapolis Hebrew congregation will mark the 90th anniversary of its founding with a dinner and program Thursday night, Nov. 21, in the Broadmoor Country club.
Dr. Maurice Eisendrath, executive
Union of American Hebrew congregations, will give an address. His topic will be “Liberal Judaism Looks Ahead.” Rabbl Morris M. Feuerlicht, spiritual leader of t temple since 1907, § Yi Diesen ¥ : Dr. Feuerlicht the congregation. Rabbi Maurice Goldblatt will introduce the speaker. Farrell Scott will sing, Dr. Harry Jacobs, president of the congregation, will preside and Isadore Feibleman will bestow scrolls of honor on senior members of the temple.
Built in 1866
The congregation first met and held worship in Blake’s hall opposite the old Bates’ house and later in Washington hall across the street from the courthouse, The first temple was built in 1866, just a year after the close of the Civil war, on Market st. between New Jersey and East sts. The present temple at 10th and Delaware sts. was dedicated in 1899. From 1867 to 1907, Rabbi Mayer Messing was spiritual leader of the temple. He was succeeded by Rabbi Feuerlicht who has been the spiritual leader ever since. Rabbi Maurice Goldblatt in 1938 came to share the responsibility with Rabbi Feuerlicht.
DR. HOLMES TO SPEAK Dr. Arthur Holmes, professor of the psychology and philosophy of religion in the Butler university School of Religion, will speak in Sweeney chapel at 11 a. m. Sunday. “Divided Selves” will be Dr. Holmes’ subject and the services are open to the public.
