women waited in Ontario death cells today as the time neared for them to walk to the gallows for murder. One was convicted of killing her husband and chopping off his head, arms and legs; another of luring a neighbor to an isolated spot and beating him to death, and the third of crushing the skull of her landlady. Only 10 women have been hanged in Canada, and eight of these died for slaying their husbands. The last execution of a woman in Ontario province was ‘in 1935, when Mrs. Elizabeth Tilford died for the poisoning of her husband, The three convicted women are Mrs, Evelyn Dick of Hamilton; Mrs. George Popowich of Welland, and Mrs. Marie Desmeules of Port Arthur. They will be hanged separately within several weeks of each other, beginning late this month, Mrs. Dick is slated to die Jan. 7 or the murder of her husband, John Dick, a street car motorman,

Mrs. Dick's father, Donald MacLean, and her friend, William Bohozuk, 'a steel worker, were held as suspects in the same murder and are awaiting trial. Mrs. Popowich and her husband have exhausted appeals and are |the murder of a neighbor, Louis Natto, a fruit merchant. Mr. Natto, who later died of injuries, accused the couple of luring him inte an automobile, taking him to a lonely fleld, beating him and leaving him trussed up. The appeal of Mrs. Desmeules, 37, who was convicted of slaying her landlady, Susan Thoms, last June 29, was dismissed last week.
