Brightwood Merchants Aid On Maintenance.

An $800 check today headed the Northeast community center toward a post-war future. The finan®ial contribution was made by the Brightwood Merchants’ association at a luncheon-meeting yesterday. It will be used to provide maintenance at the city-owned center,

FIRES AT PROWLER

ATTEMPTING THEFT

Jerry Woerdeman saw a prowler thrust a stick through a window| 21 Greater at his home, 1616 N. Rural st., last night, apparently trying to steal

his mother’s purse from a table.

He said, he picked up a rifle and fired directly at the prowler. He plate said he saw the man running across the yard and that he be-

lieved he struck him.

Police found no trace of the prowler in the neighborhood after

making a thorou search.

Paul Gee, 29, of 1661 College ave., reported he was awakened last night by a prowler trying to open

his bedroom window.

“When I yelled at him, he ran,”
