Frances Sider uses Celanese hand-screened rayon jersey to fashion a young and gay two-piece bathing suit (left). Bright poppies dance across a white background on the softly pleated brief skirt gathered to a flat waistband. The nude-top bra shirs with a matching self-fabric cord. Another of Miss Sider's new beachwear outfits is "Spindléwaist” (right). The slim corseted look which she develops in a play skirt of Wesley Simpson flower print on a slipcover fabric is teamed with a two-piece nude-top rayon jersey bathing suit. Here it is in a purple shade which picks up the predominant flower color in the print.

TO MOST OF us, the annual two-weeks-with-pay are still a mirage—but there are those lucky souls who have only to hurdle the holidays before they land sun-tan deep in a winter vacation. For them, Frances Sider recently showed her cruise collection in New York. While we may envy those who get the first crack at wearing the new Sider styles, we can find consolation in the fact that the styles that go south in January come right back up here for June. Ultimately, we'll get to wear them, too. Miss Sider calls her holiday formula “Time Out for Play.” Backbone of the lot were playsuits that double for bathing, are pretty enough to wear in the sun and functional enough to get wet and like it.

» ” ~ NUDE TOPPED bathing suits appeared with a brand new silhouette called “Quaker britches,” pretty demure affairs. Pale wool jersey bathing suits, in gray, sand brown, azure blue and white, were shirred and draped and were called “Sea Siders” after Frances Sider herself. Bullfighter shorts and their accompanying tops and matching jackets reappeared in the new collection—with a new look be-

And that waist comes on bathing suits, playsuits and play skirts, giving a corsetted look without a confined and laced feeling. ” » ” PRETTINESS is stressed in the spindlewaist styles—and in addition to the close waistline, the skirt features an uneven hemline. “Slipcovers,” ‘in another group. were made of white screen-printed poplin. Just as their title indicates, these flowered chintz tops slip over bathing suits and play clothes. Here again the “spindlewaist” bouffant skirt reappeared. Beach coats had tail flares and the bathing suits that joined this gay print assembly were in colors that picked up the predominant color in the print. Then came the ‘‘beachwitches,”

” ” = PLAY SUITS with matching <kirts were shown as a boon to those always in a hurry rushing to the beach. Called "No Time to Change” they were casual dresses for town until the skirt was removed. Then a one-piece play suit was revealed. same seqiience were nude topped gun dresses with matching coverup boleros, as well as bare midriffs. Don't look vet for any of these in local stores. They ve just been shown in New York, so it will be several weeks before any of them get delivered. Frances Sider fashions are handled here by Ayres’, Block's and Wasson's.
