Axtell, President Truman's hand-picked candidate, a decisive beating today to win the 5th Missouri congressional seat by a majority of about 4000 votes. Complete unofficial returns gave Mr. Reeves 40,891, Mr. Axtell 36,728. Mr. Axtell, young veteran, was selected by Mr. Truman, James M. Pendergast, local Democratic boss, and C. 1. O.-P. A. C. as their candidate.
