Grid Weapons
By J. E. O'BRIEN - Butler university's bureau of football research—nearing successful completion of its project to bring the 1946 Indiana conference championship to Butler—has developed in the process the M-1 and M-2 a pair of not-so-secret
weapons. The M-1 (to be touched off for touchdowns) is Jim McLinn, fresh-
"Iman pigskin pitcher whose passes & |spin ever more accurately, it seems,
when he’s zeroed in on a receiver in the end zone. ¥ The M-2, labeled first-down ine surance, is fullback Francis Mo riarty, adept at finding or. making holes in the middle of the line when yardage is paramount, But passing along this information to St. Joseph's and Valparaiso —Butler's two remaining foes— hardly could be construed, as giving comfort to the enemy. They obviously have been forewarned of both weapons as well as such other Butler assets as the double W's (Orville and Norm Williams) and a Bulldog line whose tackling and blocking have shown week-to-week improvement, Second-Half Explosion Tony Hinkle, director “of the bureau, directed all this armament at Wabash last Saturday. For a while it was feared the fuse was too slow, but a second-half detonation exploded the Little Giants’ unmarred record, 25-7, and knocked them all but out of the conference title picture. } MecLinn flung two touchdown passes and Moriarity hammered consistently at the Wabash line, personally marking up six of Butler's 15 first downs and scoring a third-period s touchdown from, less than a foot ‘out after Wabash's defendérs had held gamely for three
