RECOVER FUR "WORTH $3000
Effort to Make ‘Deal’ With Police Reported.
Police today have recovered al{most $3000 worth of furs stolen from the Indiana Fur Co. by a theft ring, which was cracked several days ago. It was learned members of the (ring, who have been released on bond, attempted to negotiate a deal with police to return the “goods” if police would “go easy with them.” Howard Sanders, chief of detec tives, refused to comment on this mor, Another possibility is that auto banditry charges might be preferred against members of the ring. The law says anyone using a car in the commission of a felony is subject to this charge. A truck was used in some of the thefts, Furs recovered here last night included three coats valued at $1185, and a silver fox neckpiece valued at $300. A $395 neckplece was found in Noblesville, Coats, Scarfs Missing Police said Herman Rudy, 41, of {1646% N. Delaware st, who has [been named as the “fence” for the | ring, and is charged with receiving | stolen goods, concealed the furs in various hiding places until he could find an outlet for them." Still missing, according to police, are an ermine coat and two mink scarfs. ’ J Four furs taken from the local fur company were recovered earlier in the week from Richard Martin, 30, of 2439 Talbot st. Police said he admitted having taken the items several months ago. Martin was an employee of the Indiana Fur Co. Martin is charged with vagrancy. Others arrested as members of the alleged ring are: Joseph Gillespie, 30, of 1936 Tallman ave, an employee of the fur firm, vagrancy charge; Harold T. Bronstrup, 31, of 1713 Sharon ave. an employee of the company, grand larceny and embezzlement, and Mrs. Fairlee Rudy, wife of Herman Rudy, vag. rancy charge.
