Bartender Jack Egan is a sad man — he's got a| Molotov cocktail but no Molotov. “He came in here the other day,” Mr. Egan said, polishing the United Nations delegates’ spotless bar with a towel. “He sat down with the other Russians and he looked around. But he didn't order a drink. He just stayed there a few minutes and left.” 'If Mr. Molotov only had ordered, Mr. Egan was standing ready and waiting. It would have been an historic moment. He had his Molotov cocktail all ready. It could have been served within 30 seconds. t he never got a chance. Mr. Egan, along with bartenders tie Rice, Eddie Wright, and George Estey, believes that the delegates—by their drinking-—prove

themselves to be men of great! common sense. “They've gone back to the old | solid days,” Mr. Egan said, “and I mean before world war I. They drink cocktails of good reputation, like a daiquiri, martini, Manhattan or old fashioned. We don't get any silly orders here. The delegates from Saudi Arabia, wearing their traditional flowing robes, step right up to the bar and drink orange juice, Mr. Egan said. “In fact, before meetings, most of them settle for cokes or orange juice,” he added. For instance, United Nations Seeretary General Trygye Lie like a Cuba Libre, : “But only one,” Mr. Egan said. “We don't need interpreters,” he said. “They can all make themselves understood. The only trouble comes when it's time to pay. Our money sometimes confuses them.”
