Gambling and lawlessness are thriving in Marion county through a “system of collectors and front men,” Lewis (Cap) Johnson, Democratic candidate for sheriff, charged in a campaign statement here today, He charged that the “system” exists under the political “permission” of Henry E. Ostrom, couhty Republican chairman, and the present law enforcement agencies. “The sheriff of Marion county should not be tied up with any orm of politically-protected rotuness and- crime and, if elected eriff, 1 shall not allow myself to be hog-tied by any group of politicians as we have today,” he said. “There will be no ‘boss’ with Lis thumb on me.” “High Time for Cleanup” Mr, Johnson charged that thousands of dollars weekly are now being taken from the pockets of\the youth of the county in various] forms of gambling.

LONDON, Oct. 29.—Foreign offices throughout the world gave the closest study today to a new pronouncement by Marshal Stalin. It was contained in replies to 81 questions submitted by the United Press to the Soviet premier. Last night Marshal Stalin, in a cable from Moscow to the writer here, replied to all 31 questions. Among the points Premier Stalin made:

SEATTLE, Wash., Oct. 20 (U, P.). ~-0. John Rogge, former assistant U. 8. attorney said last night that the Nazis dispatched a submarine load of propaganda agents to this country in 1944 in an attempt to prevent the re-election of President Roosevelt. Mr, Rogge was discharged for revealing details of a report he made on fascism in Europe. ; The submarine was sunk in the Atlantic by allied bombs, - thwarting the Nazi plan, Mr. Rogge said.
