Along about state fair time, in tones fairly dripping . gloom, Coach | Tony Hinkle said Butler would have a hard time holding its own this .!season against its Hoosier gridiron | companions.
His pessimistic stand was supported when the Bulldogs had to connect on a last-minute] desperation pass to achieve victory over Indiana State. But today Butler looked again like prewar Butler, and its 41-6.

Tutored on Tricks
Scarcely anyone looked for the Bulldog margin of victory to be that large. Butler still carrled some painful bruises received a week ago at Western Michigan, and five first-stringers were too battered to get into football suits. Moreover, Coach Bob Nipper of DePauw was a former Hinkle football student who probably had tutored his Tigers on a few of Tony's tricks. Nevertheless Butler tore into the Tigers, gained almost at will on the ground and easily spotted the holes in the DePauw pass defense for long, effective aerials. Butler second and third-stringers were pressed into service, and it wasn't
until the fourth quarter against a
full lineup of substitutes Ahatr DePauw managed its only touchdown. Of course, the Tigers had themselves to blame for setting up several Butler touchdowns. They
in and block a punt to energize the first Butler scoring march. Trying to operate out of the “T.” DePauw backs twice muffed the pigskin on backfield handoffs, and these eventually led to Butler touchdowris. Another DePauw error —a lateral pass that went awry— also gave the Bulldogs & break on which they capitalized. Quota of Stars Butler had a full quota of stars for the afternoon. Fullback Francis | Moriarity was the backfield workhorse, whose transportation chores credited him with two touchdowns. Halfback Orville Williams sprinted for one touchdown and was on the receiving: end of a payoff pass,
