BUILDERS aur, SAYS NAM CHIEF

Wason Places Blame on . OPA Regulation.

MINNEAPOLIS, Oet. 10 (U.P.)~ Robert R. Wason, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, says that thousands of contractors have stopped trying to build houses because of price control. They quit because every needed priority was under OPA regulation, Mr, Wason told manufacturers attending a regional N. A. M. meeting last night. Mr. Wason charged that the bright hopes for prosperity the nation held on. V-J day had been destroyed by rigid economic controls, imposed by President Truman and Reconversion Director John Steelman. Hopes for prosperity have been postponed into the future, Mr. Wason said, by “government controls and ineptitudes.”

“The American economy cannot

prosper half controlled and half’

free,” he said. “With all the powers that government could grant houses could not be built.”

Jules Zinter, 538 Carlyle pl, who teaches electricity ‘at Technical high school, has for a number of years raised peonies for a hobby. He says: “It’s early for Indian-

still growing and will until “frost kills the tops. “In 1938 I planted 135 peonies in the week between Christmas and New Year's. There was no difference between their performance and that of earlier planted roots. Of course the ground was about the consistency of soft chocolate ice cream. That didn’t help much. But peonies can take late planting

MRS. LAWRENCE DINKELL, ‘319 W. Hanna rd, has two fine azaleamums that she has raised from volunteer seedlings. . A year ago this fall she found eight or 10 tiny chyrsanthemum plants growing in the row with her cushion mums. She was interested in seeing what kind of flower they would produce. Some of the plants were so tender they failed to live over that winter, The others blossomed last fall She discarded some of them because of poor growth habit or singleness of flowers, The two selected plants, now blossoming, are entirely satisfactory. This suggests a new way to experiment with your azaleamums. Blossoming earlier than the taller growing mums they have a better chance to mature their seed before sold weather.
