Program Arranged’ for Tomorrow at Murat

Announcement of Phil Spitalny’s he

“Hour of Charm” program at the Murat tomorrow evening was made today by Theater Productions, Inc. Featuring such familiar soloists as Joanne, Phyllis, the Three Harmonettes, Viola, Gloria, Eleanor, Kathleen and Evelyn and her “magic violin,” the all-girl band’s program will include’ light and semi-classical selections. Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” a medley of George M. Cohan’s songs and the Malotte setting of “The Lord's Prayer,” sung by Gloria and the choir, will be highlights of the concert.

Wife Parted

Conductor Plans No Legal Action Now

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 8 (U. P.. —Eugene Ormandy, conductor of

ff [the Philadelphia orchestra, and his || wife, the former Stephanie Goldner,

have separated. Attorneys for the couple said that no legal action was planned “at this time.” Mr, Ormandy moved to a suite at an apartment hotel directly across the street from their former home, where his wife still continues to live, Mr, Ormandy, a native of Budapest, formerly was the conductor of the Capitol Grand orchestra of New York and the Minneapolis symphony orchestra. Mrs. Ormandy was born in Vienna and was a harpist with the New York Philharmonic orchestra for 10 years prior to her marriage 24 years ago. Mr.* Ormandy returned . from a South American concert tour on Sept. 23 and by mutual agreement did not resume living with his wife, his attorneys said. The couple has no children,

Local Pianist Announces Concert in Chicago

Bomar Cramer, Indianapolis pianist, has announced the program for his recital at 4 p. m. next Sunday in Chicago's Kimball hall. Of massive proportions, Mr. Cramer's Chicago program will include Bach's E minor English suite, Beethoven's last sonata, op. a group of Chopin, Brahms and Rachmaninoff compositions and Ravel's “Gaspard de la Nuit” suite. Mr. Cramer will repeat the program in Indianapolis at 3 p. m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the English theater.

Sponsor Record Series

The Teen music committee will sponsor the first of a series of recorded-music' evenings at 7:30 p. m. today in the Wilking Music Co. auditorium. With Walter Whitworth as narrator, tonight's program, open to teen-agers only, will include Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel,” Rachmaninoff’s Second concerto and Arthur Foote's suite for flute and strings.

AFL Screen Extras Win 33 Per Cent Pay Boost

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 8 (U.P.) —By a mail vote of 2605 to 151, members of the A. F. of L. Screen Extras Guild approved a contract with major film producers providing 33 per cent wage boosts and retroactive pay to Jan. 1, 1946, Union Secretary H. O'Neil Shanks announced today. From $750,000 to $1,000,000 will be paid the extra players in retroactive | pay, Mr. Bhanks estimated. Under the new pay scale, general | extra players will be increased from $10.50 to $14 for an eight-hour day.

CANNES, France, Oct. 8 U, P.). —American film star Ray Milland has been awarded the grand international prize for his portrayal of the alcoholic in “The Lost Weekend,” judged to be the best male acting in any film exhibited at the Cannes 1946 film festival. Michele Morgan was named the best actress for her performance in the French film “Symphonie Pastorale.” The award for the best film went to the French for “La Bataille du Rail.” Other prizes included Walt Disney's “Make Mine Music” for the best animated film, Ficentos of Mexico for the best photography in “Maria Mantelaria,” and Russia's “Berlin” as the best documentary
