Butler to Meet

Saturday at Kalamazoo

Meeting their first football competition away from home this season, the Butler Bulldogs will journey to Kalamazoo, Mich., Saturday to renew relations with Western Michigan, an old time foe on Butler pre-war schedules. Since 1935 the Broncos and the Bulldogs have met seven times with Western Michigan winning five of the contests. Coach Tony Hinkle wasted little time yesterday patting his team on the back for its last minute effort in defeating Indiana State, 13-7, with a desperation pass. He sent his men through the usual Monday afternoon “Mother's day” game with men who did not see tion Saturday. Those who car-

ried most of the burden Saturday were sent to the showers early. Although Hinkle has a larger number of lettermen on hand than in pre-war years, it probably will be his outstanding crop of freshmen, ‘though lacking in experience, who will show the way in future games. Orville Williams, fullback from last year's Crispus Attucks team, is the leading ground gainer for the Fairview eleven. Williams has carried the ball 13 times in two games for a total gain of 82 yards, or approximately 6% yards per try. Bulldog fans are looking to big things from James McLinn, freshman from Cathedral, who has developed into the sparkplug of the Butler aerial attack, Throwing only one pass in the opening Eastern Illinois game, McLinn completed it to Orville Williams for a 27-yard gain. In the Indiana State game, McLinn threw 10 passes, completing only two for 60 yards, one of which, however, was the game-winning pass to Williams. Both these men probably will see considerable action against Western Michigan, a heavier team which two weeks ago defeated Ripon, 47 to 0, and last Saturday held a powerwul Ohio university eleven to a 25-7 score.

Cathedral Plays Millers Thursday

Gunning for its third straight victory after dropping its opener, the Cathedral high school football team will play the Noblesville high school Millers at Noblesville Thursday night,

Originally scheduled for Friday, the game date was changed because of the public reception Friday at Cathedral for Archbishop Paul C. Schulte, newly appointed head of the Indianapolis diocese, The Noblesville eleven has split even in four starts,

caught four. Lou King of Iowa leads in interceptions with three. On team statistics Illinois leads offensively with 347 yards in their conquest of Purdue. Indiana is the defensive leader, yielding an average of only 150 yards per game by rushing and passing to Michigan and Minnesota.
